Basic Information For Installing

  1. It is necessary to maintain the stones leveled, on the superior part of the stone it is sometimes necessary to use a spacer for support for a few hours, and then may be removed.
  2. Beginning from an inferior corner then continuing upwards then around a square meter, lower so may start form the bottom again.
  3. It is very important to clean any remaining of cement or grout that could stain the stone. Immediately use a wet sponge of humid rag to clean the surface of stone.
  4. Before installing grout lines for either floor or wall stones, it is necessary to apply one coat of sealer on the stone, for easier cleaning. Do not apply the grout over stone like installation for ceramic. You may obtain the proper information form our sales office.
  5. For the ROYAL CASTLE STONE model it is necessary to reduce the stones that do not fit properly together with the others. To align it in a way that the spacing may not be noticed that much. In case that the spacing are easily noticed when installed; it is necessary to fill it in with grout that contains the color of the stone and apply a tint that can be given when asked at our office.

You may obtain installation guide for specific stone from our office.

Applying Mortar to Prepared Surface Area

Using plasterer’s or mason’s trowel apply Surebond® Thinset ½” to ¾” thick to prepared surface area. Do not spread more than a workable area (5 to 10 sq. ft.) so that Surebond® Thinset will not “set up” before stone is applied.

Press each stone into the mortar setting bed firmly enough to squeeze some mortar out around the stone’s edges. Apply pressure to the stone to ensure a good bond. Ensure complete coverage between the mortar bed and back surface of the stone. Mortar may also be applied to the entire back of the stone. When stone is installed correctly, scratch coat/backing will not be visible.

Install Corner Pieces First

If your application requires corner pieces, apply these first. Notice that the corner pieces have long and short leg. Alternate these in opposite directions.

Install Flat Pieces

After the corner pieces are in place, flat pieces are applied.

Keep Mortar Joints Consistent

Place the individual stones close together, creating uniform joints between them. Cut and trim as required to achieve consistent width in the mortar joints. Position large pieces first, then trim and fit in smaller pieces.
